This richly nuanced novel tells of an ordinary man faced with an incredible dilemma - to save his wife's life he must risk losing her forever.

Michaela, beloved wife and mother of two, lies in a coma. Doctors have told her husband Liam not to expect a recovery, but he maintains hope that love can accomplish what medicine cannot. Day after day, he sits by her bedside, holding her hand, sharing the stories of their life together.

Then he discovers the evidence of his wife's secret past - a long hidden first marriage to international movie star Julian True. When he sees photos of her glowing happiness with Julian, he knows the actor was more than simply Michaela's first husband. He was the love of her life. Liam senses that Julian is the one person who can bring her back to life, but at what cost? Can Liam love his wife enough to risk losing her to a man no woman could resist?

I loved Kristin Hannah's The Nightingale, so I thought I'd try some of her earlier works. Angel Falls is the second of her earlier books that I've read, and let's just say her writing improved over time. Angel Falls was published in 2000, which is important to know since characters have beepers instead of cell phones (although I had a cell phone in 2000). The premise of the book is good - woman suffers head injury and is in a coma for weeks. Desperate husband seeks out her first husband to talk to her to try to get her to wake up. No spoilers here, but let's just say the plan didn't work as envisioned. There are several reasons I only gave this book 3 stars. First, I don't think Ms. Hannah has ever been around 9-year old boys. The 9-year old son in the story talked and acted more like he was 5 years old or younger. I understand him regressing due to the trauma of witnessing his mother's accident, but even before and after that he is portrayed much younger. Secondly, the son's name is Bret, but the other characters continuously called him "Bretster." I understand giving the kid a nickname, but it was just annoying to me. Finally, one of the reasons I loved The Nightingale was the strong female characters in the story. In Angel Falls, the women come across as weak, more like damsels in distress. The book was a fast read and held my interest, but is nowhere near as good as I had expected.

Angel Falls (Audible Audio Edition) Kristin Hannah Bruce Reizen Brilliance Audio Books Reviews

Wonderful. Again and again! So moving. I need to invest in tissues because her stories get to my heart every time. Definitely recommend Ms. Hannah's books to anyone. Always clean and uplifting--they hit home so many times. Have to thank my daughter each time I read her books, for recommending them to me, her mom.
Too cliche and trite for me. I didn't think it was very well written and thought a lot of it was superfluous and redundant. I also didn't think the characters behaved all that believably in much of the book, especially Julien, who found his humanity and then wouldn't meet his daughter in the end. I listened to most of it and read the last few pages, which was really a struggle. If it had gone on for one more page, I would have given up.
When his wife has an accident and is in a coma, her husband Liam learns the truth of her first marriage to a rock star. He must decide to take the chance to contact the star to see if his voice will help her regain consciousness and memory. He realizes the odds that she could choose to return to her first love and he will be the loser. His love must make his decision and only faith sustains his choices.
This story was so sad, heartbreakingly so. But so hopeful, A good man Dr Liam, who deeply loved his family. He bravely stood with his family by his wife, when she couldn't explain or even express her foolish obsession, but her mother truly saw the daughter , she held them all together through . Great story!
I liked the characters in the book very much. Shows the trauma something like this inflicts on the whole family. not just the person injured. However, I thought the end was a bit far-fetched. I won't say what about it seems that way, so as not to be a spoiler.

Good read, as always, from Kristin Hannah.
Kristin Hannah does not disappoint in this well written book. This book is about the love & strength of a family during a tragedy. A great love story. The true love of a wonderful man wins out over the passion of first love. A very emotional read guaranteed to bring tears to your eyes. Makes you understand that we need to appreciate what is important. I highly recommend reading this book. This is book that you will want to not put down!
Kristin Hannah is a great author, and this time she is masterful in helping us see and grasp the essence of love in this touching novel. She's done a remarkable job of gifting her readers with a believable narration that captures the most powerful and elusive force in the world-- almost impossible to explain except through experience and feeling.

"Angel Falls" lays open a family's struggle to trust and recognize the strength of their bonds when unexpected tragedy abruptly interrupts a seemingly ordinary day. Thus begins a marathon of what it means to love and be loved in a battle where the overwhelming power of obsession and past love come face to face with reality and secrets long held.

There are no real "bad guys" here, but as the characters pick their fragile (yet unbreakable) way through this touching and insightful story, you'll feel sympathy for those who realize too late the cost of failing to embrace love when it's offered purely and selflessly. The pain, regrets tenderness and triumphs felt honest, even if a little smoother than real life might dish out, and the good guy wins in the end-- and a family comes together. Make sure you have a little reading time set aside when you begin this book-- you won't want to put it down. I'm not a big romance reader, but I read this one straight through.
