Sometimes really strange and wonderful adventures happen to you. But most of the time, they don’t. Eleven year old Ellie Dashe had no longing for adventure. After all, her father had died from it. But then, the very first night in her new apartment, Elllie accidentally discovers Nuala O’Whim, a willful and sometimes even mean fairy whose taste for fresh cream got her locked in Ellie’s chimney. For ninety-five years, Nuala has been waiting in the soot and she isn’t the only one who has been waiting. There are others depending upon her, and somewhere in a park in San Francisco-Nuala can’t remember exactly where-they are still waiting. Soon Ellie is pulled into Nuala’s world. And when the rescue of a princess goes really, really wrong, things get wild and dangerous.

I just finished reading "Time Waits For No Fairy", and loved it! Molly Harrigan's style of writing is fluid and engaging. I was instantly drawn into the life of Ellie Dasche, and her accidental discovery of the Fairy Nuala O'Whim, locked in Ellie's fireplace for 95 years. I loved the historical features of the story, so cleverly written, weaving the San Francisco of 1915 with present day San Francisco. I recommend this book to readers of all ages, and personally hope there is a sequel.

Time Waits For No Fairy Molly Harrigan 9781449942922 Books Reviews

This was a wonderful read for girls of all ages although the heroine is a pre-teen struggling with all the difficulties young girls face today and it will appeal to many young women defining themselves. And it's historical as well, a history lesson but with fairies. You can't put it down but keep turning the pages without ever guessing what is coming next. It's a fun romp and a real slice of life both in the present day and in 1915 San Francisco. Set at the time of the Pan Pacific International Exposition it has just the right amount of fantasy! There are many insights about growing up, finding your courage, taking responsibility and the most important lesson that you should never ever trust a fairy as they have an entirely different agenda from us mere mortals. And it answers the age old question What is life like for a royal princess, a real one and a pretend one?
I liked this so much I bought extras for all my nieces too.
This book was amazing!! It had numerous chracters but i felt like i could relate to them all. It has a very clever setting and a beautiful contrast of 1915 San Francisco and today. This book is a great for children and is a very heartwarming and inspiring story. I hope everyone who reads this book loves it as much as i did and one day hopefully it will be made into a movie.
Loved this book ... a very fun read that kept me completely engaged ... and I'm an adult! The storyline moves along extremely well (don't be deterred by the length) and the written detail of the setting and characters makes all the characters in this story truly come to life for the reader. The story is clever and unpredictable. I have to admit, I was dreading a "this is out-of-the-blue, this ending doesn't work with the book" as I was nearing the end because I just didn't know how Molly Harrigan was going to conclude the story without some wild and unbelievable ending. It was cleverly, wonderfully and dramatically concluded in a very creative, makes-complete-sense way.

Molly Harrigan does a fantastic job of using a fun, fantasy and make-believe world to take a current day character through real, current life issues that a young lady today might face.

The historical references and detail of San Francisco are great and clearly well researched.

Can't wait for the sequel!
I'm almost 12 years old and I loved reading this book. I was a devoted Harry Potter fan -- I read each book 7 times -- and this is one of the few books that can rival it. I liked the story, the adventure the girls went on and the history of San Francisco, where I live. I even liked the description. I don't always pay attention to the language, I prefer the story, but the author writes beautifully. My English teacher calls it, "Drawing me in" and that is what the author did. I wish she'd write a second one!
This book is a two-in-one treat for anyone lucky enough to read it. The first half tells of the main character Ellie's difficulty in making friends, and the challenges of being an only child of a single mom who moves frequently. Her encounters with a fairy and a child princess transported from 1915 to present day San Francisco challenge Ellie's no-friend pledge and her commitment to leading a lonely, solitary childhood. The unexpected personality of the fairy make this a particularly fun read as do the very wonderfully accurate descriptions of present day and historic San Francisco (my family lives in SF). The only slow part for us (I read it aloud with my kids), was when the princess goes to school with Ellie toward the end of the first half of the book, but the story picked up quickly in the second half, which is a page-turning cliff hanger.

In addition to being a fun adventure, the book has a great message for pre-adolescent and adolescent kids, a mature twist on the more simplistic moral messages I've read in other books. However, what makes this message particularly impactful is the subtle way in which Harrigan treats the issue--and the timing. You get so caught up in the adventure, you don't see it coming. In fact, one of my favorite aspects about reading this book is Harrigan's aptitute for summing up not just complex feelings, but situations and observations as well, in very few, poignant words--not in a pretentious way, but in a way that often made me pause to think how good the writing in this book is. That is a true treasure in any book, let alone one as fun to read as Time Waits for No Fairy. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Charming characters. The author paints a vivid picture if San Francisco both past and present. Don’t want to wrige too much and spoil the story. It’s fantasy mixed with historical fiction - the two genres I never read and I still loved it.
I love the writing and I love the story and I love the magic. I highly recommend this book. I hope to give it to my granddaughter.
