I GO OFF... on Tommy Lee
Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee recently expressed his bemusement concerning Steel Panther’s inclusion on the same bill as Motley and Def Leppard. (Lep, Crue and SP are currently touring the U.K. together.) Here's what he had to say to Classic Rock Magazine:
“Steel Panther? That was not by our choice. That got thrown on there. I guess it’s funny if you’re drunk, but for us to play a tour with a band that mocks you is just fucking weird. I feel bad for the fans if that’s not something they want. It wasn’t my choice.”
Well, where do I start? It appears that T-Bone is a little lightheaded these days, which is understandable considering the rollercoaster drum solo he has to perform every night on tour.
First of all, Steel Panther is not mocking you. They are going out of their way to celebrate all that it good about 80’s hard rock and heavy metal. Don’t be a hater just because their band has a better singer and guitar player than the Crue has. And have you not heard the following lyrics from their debut single, “Death To All But Metal?”
"Where is Def Leppard, Where is Motley Crue?"
Duuuude, they name-checked you because they LIKE you!
Who would you rather listen to? Justin Bieber or Steel Panther? That’s what I thought, so please keep your mouth shut already and just enjoy the tunes…
Def Leppard’s Phil Collen and his wife Helen recently commented on the Panther and were much more complimentary:
“We’ve been listening to the Steel Panther album and it’s hilarious. It’s great playing, great singing and really stupid words” - Phil Collen
“Just watched Steel Panther and OMG! These guys are awesome! Great vocals, fantastic musicianship, and hilarious stage presence and lyrics. It's like watching Steve Martin do an SNL rock n roll skit. Seriously. Great show gentlemen!” – Helen Collen
